Historically, if you had lost all or most of your teeth, the only option was to have a traditional unsecured denture. Thankfully, those days are gone.

If you find wearing dentures uncomfortable, painful or just plain unreliable you will appreciate the stability and comfort of having a natural-looking denture that is firmly attached to around two to four dental implants.

This is called an implant-retained denture and can be useful if you have lots of missing teeth or no teeth at all. Your dentures can still be removed for cleaning, but will stay put once in place allowing you to laugh and eat with impunity.

I avoid eating certain food – will implants help?

As the jawbone shrinks, your chewing efficiency is reduced, making it difficult to eat certain foods. Dental implants can restore chewing efficiency comparable to that of natural teeth. This allows you to eat your favourite foods comfortably and with confidence.

Will I enjoy eating again?

A full upper denture covers the palate of the mouth and reduces the ability to taste foods. With dental implants, you can have the palate removed from your upper denture so you can taste and enjoy your food once again.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants look and feel just like your own original teeth. An implant is an artificial root made from ultra-pure titanium that replaces the root of a missing tooth. It can be placed in either the upper or lower jaw and, in time, will bond with your jawbone to create a firm foundation to which a replacement false tooth is fixed. Implants can also be used to provide a secure foundation for bridges and dentures.

How long do dental implants last?

In a healthy person with a healthy mouth and bone, implant roots (the metal screw part) should last as long as your natural teeth. They need caring for as natural teeth do. Will treatment hurt?

All treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic (the area made numb). Dental implant treatment is a minor surgical procedure that has been performed for many years, with an excellent success rate. We take care to nurture nervous patients, getting to know them and putting them at ease.

How much do dental implants cost?

Dental implant treatment starts at £1900. Following a comprehensive consultation we would provide a full written estimate of costs that reflect your individual needs, which will be explained clearly and concisely. Generally we request half of the payment mid-way through treatment and the rest upon completion

Do you offer an initial consultation?

Yes. You are invited to join Dr David Quinn for an initial consultation to assess your suitability for dental implant treatment. At this comprehensive 50-minute consultation we will explain the advantages and disadvantages of each dental implant option so that you can make an informed decision about your care. It’s inclusive of x-rays and costs £90.

What if I’m not suitable?

Everyone is different and if you aren’t suitable for implants at Leyland Implants, we promise to do all we can to find an alternative treatment to achieve your smile and functional desires.
